No code web building with Gutenberg blocks and the WordPress Full Site Editing has truly arrived, providing enterprises such as a government agencies and educational institutions the ability to implement unique self service WordPress solutions within their computing environments
CivicPress is a WordPress theme product that integrates the US Web Design System (USWDS) with the WordPress CMS. CivicPress is a product researched and developed by Lone Rock Point, based on the learning the company gained integrating the USWDS into WordPress for NASA’s web modernization projects, www.nasa.gov and plus.nasa.gov. Lone Rock Point recognized a need for a reusable product in the public sector to help federal government agencies meet the modernization requirements of the Integrated Digital Experience Act of 2018 and OMB M-23-22. CivicPress is more than a WordPress theme. It’s a solution that can accelerate meeting digital modernization requirements in the public sector and also provides a WCAG 2.2 accessibility baseline. CivicPress, set color and typography design tokens to control brand settings across your entire site, making it easier for design to be consistent and maintainable—all in a no code way
It also achieves design and brand consistency for federal government agencies by integrating with US Web Design Standards 3.0. The challenge of CivicPress was WordPress and Full site editing has built in design system traits so integrating with a well defined third party design system such as USWDS to create a WordPress block theme that is ready for distribution and use.

Presenters
J.J. Toothman
J.J. Toothman is a 20 year veteran of Web and digital interactive spaces, including Program, Product, and Project Management roles, with Web and mobile application development backgrounds. He’s put these to service to develop NASA’s first WordPress-powered public blog, and has consulted with NASA to lead the development of their enterprise Web strategy ever since, focusing on SaaS solutions to support NASA’s mission operatives and program researchers. He later worked with Ticketfly to develop and implement their social marketing platform for music venues. J.J. is a subject matter expert in enterprise collaborative software, open source content management systems such as WordPress and Drupal, working with open source communities, and deploying, onboarding, and managing multitenant CMS solutions

Michelle Schulp Hunt
Michelle is based in Minneapolis, MN, and is currently the Director of UX Engineering at Lone Rock Point. She has previously collaborated with clients ranging in size from solopreneurs to enterprise as an independent consultant. Michelle employs a strategy-based approach to design and development focused on solving tangible problems and achieving real goals based on how people think. She loves the open source community, and when she is not pursuing professional, personal, or wellness goals, she enjoys giving back through speaking and connecting with others. Her passions are communication and empowerment, and she believes in the power of "Why?"
